At the start of the year, the Bahrain government purchased 30% of the McLaren Group under the name Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding. There is no question that Bahrain has a great interest in F1, but the McLaren purchase may be more to do with positioning Mercedes in the region and the potential development of a production plant in the country.

If the following photos are anything to go by, it seems another group in Bahrain have already produced 2 of their very own F1 cars! The Malaysian Grand Prix was a breakthrough for McLaren. It’s been a long time since they’ve been so competitive so early on in a season. Even better for us, the Malaysian Grand Prix result proves this championship is going to be a great battle. So on to the points…

Fernando Alonso – Showed just why he’s a double world champion. Must have been extremely relieved to get such a good start.

Lewis Hamilton – I really like this guy. He seems so honest and frank in interviews. From the fact that he admitted it was his tiredness that enabled Kimi Raikkonen to close on him on the final laps, to the way he talked of the stress of having “2 red blobs” in his mirrors for the whole race. Classy performance.

Kimi Raikkonen – Really is doing a good job of impersonating Michael Schumacher. Even has the really glum face when he doesn’t win happening. Still needs to work out how to do a gay jump on the podium when he does win though.. (gay meaning happy BTW)

Felipe Massa – Already starting to prove he doesn’t have what it takes to be a world champion. I thought he might give Kimi a run this year. Lucky no bets were placed..

Nick Heidfeld – I always thought McLaren were silly to pass up Nick in favour of Kimi Raikkonen all those years ago. It’s races like this that prove his talent.

Williams – Always seem to put in a great performance in Malaysia. The car was a bit skittish but hopefully they can at least get on the heels of BMW eventually.

Honda, Toyota, Red Bull Racing, Toro Rosso – What on earth is going on with these teams? The gap between them and the top teams is ridiculous this season. Matchbox could make a faster F1 car.

Super Aguri – They’d be feeling our wrath too if it weren’t for the fact that they’re such a young team. As a result, they actually get our praise.

Spyker – We get berated by fans when we make jokes about Spyker so we won’t do that today. We’ll just refer you to the Malaysian Grand Prix race result sheet.

We thought the fact that Britney Spears drives a McLaren Mercedese SLR was good, but while doing some research on McLaren today we came across photos of Paris Hilton in her own McLaren Mercedes! And we know how much you, the viewing public, loves Paris Hilton!

Come on Paris.. If you’re going to get an SLR McLaren Mercedes, the least you can do is get a silver one!! It looks crap in black! You know, Silver Arrows and all (though not the Tom Walkinshaw / Footwork type Arrows thankfully )..

Apparently Paris traded her Bentley Continental GT in to get the McLaren Mercedes. At least she moved up in the world I guess! (that Bentley is an ugly POS) :)

I thought I’d seen that “moustache” on the Williams F1 nose somewhere before…

Is it just me or does Fernando Alonso look kind of evil in his latest online ads for Tag Heuer? The pose he has in the capture below looks very much like something Lex Luthor from Smallville would do (played by Michael Rosenbaum)..

Heck, even the background Tag chose is similar to the Smallville promo pic!
