Funny Quote About Kimi

{ Posted on Oct 25 2007 by dScribe }

Here’s a fantastic quote about Kimi Raikkonen from Europe’s Der Spiegel magazine regarding Kimi’s first World Championship title:

Kimi showed that he adapts to any car, as long as it is not a McLaren.

Hehe… not bad not bad pretty good pretty good… ;)

Anthony Hamilton Talks BS

{ Posted on Oct 24 2007 by dScribe }

Either Anthony Hamilton was talking BS after the Brazilian Grand Prix or the guy’s a robot. This is what he had to say after his son failed to take the Drivers World Championship after leading it for most of the season (in his rookie season none-the-less):

None of us are in pain. Trust me – we feel great…

Ok, hold on. What father wouldn’t feel pain when his son came so close to achieving his ultimate dream? Even I felt a little bit of pain for Lewis (albeit not much ;) ). He had it in the bag and then everything went against him at the last moment. That has to hurt.

And besides, never trust someone who feels the need to say “trust me” when talking to the media.. ;)   He continued:

We’ve just had one of the most fantastic F1 seasons ever. If someone told me we’d have been in this position at the start of the season I would have said they were dreaming but to lose it by one point is no bad thing.

The “I would have said they were dreaming” part is sooooo cliche! This guy’s a walking press release isn’t he? :)  Lewis has had an amazing season and should be proud of his results. But to have one hand on the championship and then lose it to Kimi Raikkonen of all people..? Ouch!

10,000 Lewis World Champ 07 T-shirts for Sale

{ Posted on Oct 23 2007 by dScribe }

It’s common for the marketing people to produce World Champion T-shirts before the World Championship is decided. While we can’t confirm it, it’s almost certain there are some “Lewis Hamilton – Formula One World Champion 2007″ T-shirts floating around somewhere (probably left in Brazil)… ;)

Who would have guessed Lewis wouldn’t take the crown in Brazil? He had a good grid position. He only needed 7th place. The world (well, Britain) was on his side. Yet he couldn’t rewrite the history books.

Or could he? McLaren are protesting the fact that the BMW and Williams cars that finished ahead of Lewis didn’t get penalised for their fuel being out of regulation temperature. So maybe those T-shirts might be worth some coin after all? For now, we’ll assume the result stands as we review the race itself…

Kimi Raikkonen – Sweet justice for the man who tried so hard at McLaren. The man who we thought would be unstoppable after the first race of the season. The man who won 6 races – a few more than any other driver this year. The man who had mechanical failures while his opponents (McLaren) had 100% reliability – yet he still managed to get more points. The man who hasn’t had to resort to off-track politics to try to get an advantage. The man who simply, deserved it the most. Well done Kimi, well done.

Lewis Hamilton – We’ll do a championship summary post later on, but as far as the Brazilian Grand Prix is concerned Lewis cracked under the pressure for the 2nd race running. To be fair his gearbox problem had more to do with the final result (update: as Paula points out below, the latest news is that Lewis accidentally hit a starting button which caused the “problem”. Thanks Paula! :) ), but the question remains – why the wild driving at the start of the race? It’s great that he wants to win each and every race, but give me a championship with 4 race wins instead of 5 wins any day…

Fernando Alonso – Great start, but that’s it. For whatever reason there have been so many races this season where we haven’t seen the magic he showed at Renault. I can’t help but think if it was Lewis in 3rd he would have been able to stay closer to the Ferraris…

Yahoo – Kimi Keeps Championship Despite Fuel Probe

{ Posted on Oct 22 2007 by dScribe }

Breaking F1 news:

According to Yahoo/Eurosport, BMW and Williams will not be punished for their fuel irregularity during the Brazilian Grand Prix. This means that Lewis Hamilton remains classified 7th and does not take the World Drivers Championship away from Kimi Raikkonen.

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/21102007/58/raikkonen-title-confirmed.html

Update: Word is that McLaren are appealing the decision, so Lewis may yet still claim the title in his rookie season. Let’s hope the appeal process doesn’t take weeks as they often do.
