Mercedes Grand Prix Motorcycle
Ilmor Engineering, the company behind Mercedes Benz engines in F1, have been testing a MotoGP bike they have developed for the 2007 season. The bike appears to be very very quick. Will it end up with Mercedes branding?
In 2007, MotoGP bikes will be reduced to 800cc from the current 990cc formula. Ilmor has developed their bike with a 4-cylinder 800cc engine. The bike will make it’s debut this season at the Portugese Grand Prix.
The Ilmor bike has been the quickest 2007-spec bike in testing so far – even quicker than the 800cc Ducati GP7 bike. Despite having a capacity 190cc under existing bikes, they still might make quite an impression in Portugal and Valencia.
Very exciting, especially for Aussies as Gary McCoy has been doing the majority of testing so might get to return to the race seat in MotoGP..
