Monaco Grand Prix
The Moncao Grand Prix in Monte Carlo is traditionally extremely hard to pass on. This year proved no different with the exception of Giancarlo Fisichella’s banzai attempts. What was more interesting though was the 4 way fight that could have been between Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen, Mark Webber and Juan Pablo Montoya.
Once again it turned out to be a Grand Prix with so much potential, yet little return. Mark Webber’s engine failed and from there all of Alonso’s challengers fell one-by-one. Kimi Raikkonen quickly suffered an electrical fire while cruising slowly behind the pace car due to lack of cooling. Maybe he should have been driving the ice McLaren F1 car?? And Juan just couldn’t cut through the traffic like Alonso.
The winners and losers of Monaco:
- Fernando Alonso – The guy is unstoppable this season. Last season it seemed as though Kimi Raikkonen was the fastest driver out there, but this season Alonso is proving he really was cruising last year!
- Kimi Raikkonen – Great to see him challenging for wins again. Would have been even greater to see if he could have got past Alonso but that’s the way the cookie crumbles.
- Mark Webber – Man of the race no question. A drive at Renault or McLaren next year could really be on the cards now.
- Michael Schumacher – Just when I was beginning to think he was ok he goes and tries to get an unfair advantage again (during qualifying). It’s such a shame. I’d love to appreciate his skill but I don’t want to see someone win at all costs – I want to see a good guy win. Is he a good guy? Hmm..
- Monaco Race Stewards – Fantastic job with the Schumacher decision. It would have been so hard to take away pole position from one of the biggest sporting names in the world, but they stuck to their guns.
- Max Mosley – Talk about pulling the wool over the sheep’s (Max’s) eyes! Max thinks Schumacher’s actions during qualifying were a “split second decision”. Premeditated is the word that comes to mind.. What sort of a person even dreams up stopping on the track like that?
- Jenson Button – Apparently he’s going to win the British Grand Prix this year. LOL!
