Alonso to McLaren!

Well well well.. It’s official. Fernando Alonso will drive for Vodafone McLaren Mercedes in 2007. I don’t think anyone saw that coming!

The best part about it is it puts to rest some rumours, and creates a flood of new rumours. Everything seems to point to Michael Schumacher retiring at the end of next year. Here are some possible (almost certain?) scenarios:

  • Kimi Raikkonen or Juan Pablo Montoya to replace Michael Schumacher at Ferrari in 2007.
  • Heikki Kovalainen to race for Renault in 2007. Will Webber join him?

One thing is undeniable – 2007 will be a year for the young blood of F1. Alonso at McLaren. Massa at Ferrari. Kimi will be somewhere good no doubt. Heikki at Renault. Nico Rosberg at Williams…
